Lee Kian Choong: Semi - Abstract Artworks (2000 - 2005)

This pivotal period marks a definitive shift in my artistic journey, capturing the transition away from strict representation toward a deeply intuitive, semi-abstract visual language. Between 2000 and 2005, my work evolved into an exploration of form, emotion, and atmosphere—deconstructing the visible world to reveal its underlying emotional architecture.

During these formative years, the physical subject became a scaffolding for broader experimentation. Recognisable landscapes and figures began to dissolve into expressive brushwork, layered textures, and a deliberate harmony of form and color. Rather than painting exactly what stood before me, I began painting the feeling of the space, allowing raw emotion and spontaneous gestures to dictate the canvas.

This collection represents the genesis of my voice as an artist. It captures the exact moments where structure met abstraction, giving rise to a personal vocabulary of symbols, fluid lines, and textured depths that continue to define my practice today.
