Lee Kian Choong – Contemporary Singapore Fine Artist
Lee Kian Choong is an internationally acclaimed contemporary Singapore artist whose multi-disciplinary practice explores the invisible threads connecting science and art, human consciousness, and the structural harmony of the cosmos.
Born in Malaysia and educated in the United Kingdom—where he graduated with an honors degree in computing science in 1982—his deep analytical background laid the foundation for a profound lifetime study of systems and visual patterns. In the same year, he earned a Licentiateship from the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, later achieving the prestigious Fellowship (FRPS) in Portraiture, making him the historic first photographer based in Singapore to receive this elite global distinction.
Following a prominent 17-year tenure helming Portrait Master Studio in Singapore, where he photographed heads of state, royalty, and international dignitaries, Lee pursued a Master’s degree in Contemporary Practice in 2006, leading to his decisive transition to dedicate his life entirely to full-time contemporary painting.
Drawing upon unique cross-cultural experiences, martial arts discipline, meditative stillness, and decades of high-level visual observation, Lee’s paintings present an extraordinary aesthetic synthesis of transparent Western watermedia and classical Eastern ink traditions. Nurtured by close mentorships with pioneering legends like Dr. Chen Wen Hsi, Shanghai Academy Vice President Chen Shizhong, and Cultural Medallion master Siew Hock Meng, his distinct fine art practice has garnered stellar global recognition.
Vetted extensively by international jury processes, his works have been selected for major contemporary auctions, earned prestigious government-commissioned solo museum exhibitions (including the Taipa Houses–Museum under the official invitation of the Macao Cultural Bureau), and claimed elite global accolades. Most notably, he secured First Place at the 47th International Watercolor Exhibition in the United States, alongside premier awards across leading societies from Houston to Poly Auction in mainland China.
Since 2020, Lee’s creative path has entered a profound era of inner exploration, utilizing highly sophisticated, atmospheric cool tonalities to transcend visible form and translate the transience of light, human memory, and the interconnectedness of existence into a universal visual language.
